When Marcus and I were first talking about our future together, he told me he wanted to graduate from college, among other goals. I never let him forget that goal and he pushed through. When he started going full time to school (as well as working full time!) we set another goal for him to be done before Jacob started Kindergarten. I always told him that even though it was so hard to be away from us, that it was important to do it now while the kids are young because they won't remember. Marcus ended up finishing in December 2011. He actually had 3 finals to finish the day we found out Baby Marcus died, so that was really hard. But he buckled down and finished instead of putting them off.
We knew we wanted to have a celebration for him and decided to go ahead and have one the beginning of January, despite the grieving we still felt heavily.
We had two of Marcus' favorite things {doughnuts and hot chocolate} and had such a great time celebrating with family and friends.
Marcus' grandma and grandpa Nelson were both educators and always made sure he was trying hard in school.
In April Marcus participated in the commencement ceremony at UVU. It was a fun day and reminded us of what an accomplishment Marcus has made. He hardly ever complained and just worked hard every day to do what he did, often being gone from 6am to 10pm.
{So proud}
